BOOSTER CLUB

The Central Booster Club will meet tomorrow night (Monday) in the cafeteria at 7 PM  to see the film of the Central vs. #25 for Hardaway.  He was their "Mr. Everything", and we are lucky they didn't have 10 more talented men to go with him.  If you missed the game (and there was a lot going on), come watch the film and bring someone with you.  They don't have to be a Booster Club member as we won't have a business meeting.

FOOTBALL

COACH'S COMMENTS;    "The Jackets took care of business Saturday afternoon in Columbus with a strong 52 - 0 win over Hardaway.  The offense started fast, and the defense created five (5) turnovers in the victory.  The Jackets next face Harris County at home on November 9th for the Region Championship.  Harris County is also undefeated in the Region.  We need a "large and loud" crowd at the Jackets' Nest to cheer on our young men.

Congratulations to our 8th grade team on an undefeated season and another area championship.  (They  had a perfect 7 - 0 season.)  The 7th grade team lost to Bainbridge in their Championship game, and our 9th grade team lost to Valdosta in theirs.

Thanks to all who provided goody bags for Saturday's game, and to all those who attended the game.  We greatly outnumbered the home crowd!"

Coach Shaver is absolutely correct in saying that we greatly outnumbered the Hardaway crowd which is unfortunate.  We only counted 75 folks in their crowd, so we were at least 5 to 1 or more on our side of the field.  You are to be congratulated for making the trip to support our team!  There was a lot going on with the Georgia-Florida game, but our fans in the stands kept up with the score and celebrated the Dawgs win as well as our own.

Harris County - Start making your plans for this game.  We have an open date next weekend, November 2nd, and then Harris County comes to town to play for all the marbles on November 9th.  The winner of that game will be the Region champ as they are undefeated in region play as well.  The game is at 8 PM, but plan to be in your seats early for the following reasons.

1.  Senior Night - When all the Senior football players, cheerleaders, band members, and media folks will be honored with their parents prior to the kickoff.

2.  Homecoming - The 2012 Homecoming Court will be introduced at half time, and the 2012 Homecoming Queen will be crowned.

3.  Region Championship Game - will kick off at 8 PM.  The winner of the game will not only be region champ, but will also be the #1 seed in the playoffs.  This means that they will get to host the first game of the playoff which is huge!

4.  Tickets - If you don't have season tickets, I'm sure Mrs. Pickett will be selling tickets on Thursday and Friday from 8AM until 3 PM.  This will be one of the biggest (if not the biggest) game in the state that weekend, so get your tickets early.

So rest up this week and enjoy Halloween if you have small children.  Then get ready for THE GAME!  Put a ribbon on your shaker in honor of Homecoming, grab the kids, your TC stadium seat, your tickets, and be at the Jackets' Nest early for the kickoff.  We need you to be "large, loud, and proud" as Coach Shaver said in support of our team.  Remember, if we host a playoff game at the Jackets' Nest, you get extra use out of your reserved parking space!  So let's get behind our team, and let's
gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Jackets!!!           Lee

Central hurt by miscues
The Times EnterpriseSat Sep 01, 2012, 01:01 AM EDTTHOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central coach Bill Shaver’s face contradicted the scoreboard at Thomas County Stadium Friday night.

Shaver’s eyes gleamed with pride even though his Yellow Jackets ended up on the short end of a 35-33 count against Colquitt County. Central had to punt just once against the powerful Class AAAAAA Packers, rolling up 395 total yards — including 153 through the air.

“We fought,” Shaver said. “Even though we had some turnovers early on and some miscues that got us behind — and a blocked extra point and a blocked field goal — our guys kept battling. I don’t have anything but positive things to say about this game.

“Obviously, we didn’t win the game, but when you take what is supposed to be the best team in Colquitt County history right down to the wire — you have to be pleased.”

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) closed the gap to 35-33 with 3:40 left after Deondre Cooksey rambled 78 yards for a touchdown after hauling in a short pass from Adam Choice. The score was followed by a Gavin Wilson extra point.

After returning the ensuing kickoff to their 20, the Packers (1-1) ran out the clock after earning a couple of hard-fought first downs on third-down passes to Bobby Hill. Hill finished with 13 catches for 136 yards and a score.

“We fought them tooth and nail, and they know that,” Shaver said. “They are a lot bigger than we are, but I don’t think they want to play us again. In our hearts, we know we gave a great team a battle.”

Central offensive linemen grab spotlight in scrimmage

THOMASVILLE — A ray of sunshine cut through the drizzle at Thomas County Stadium Friday night.

Thomas County Central’s offensive line, a unit short on experience, got off to a brilliant start in a rainy scrimmage against Jonesboro. The Yellow Jackets’ blockers spearheaded a 7-play, 95-yard touchdown drive on their first possession, paving the way for a 28-6 win.

In one quarter of junior varsity action, Central prevailed 14-0.

“I’m real proud of the linemen,” Yellow Jackets head coach Bill Shaver said. “I think their performance might give them some confidence as we move forward.”

Central, set to open the season on Aug. 25 at Thomasville, scored on its first three possessions and piled up 500 total yards before surrendering the field to the junior varsity at the end of the third period. The Yellow Jackets rushed for 489 yards on 38 attempts.

“Jonesboro has a good team,” Shaver said. “They went 9-2 last year. I think one thing that helped us is that they aren’t used to seeing our kind of (veer) offense.”

Caleb Autrey, Moses Jones, Reggie Mobley, Hunter Parmer, Conner Gibbs and Sam Long opened a lot of gaping holes.

“It’s going to get harder when we face teams that are more familiar with what we do,” Shaver warned.
